3 out of 4 ain't bad. Buccaneers win a third NewsMail Premiership in 2005. Along with the Hitz Fm Sevens and the Channel Seven Shield. As usual grand finals are never easy, along with all finals no matter what sport you play. Saturday 27th August was no different, it was a hard fought win, in which the scoreline did not reflect the game. East Coast came out on top after Jason Schuler scored the only try of the match along with Matt Horne who successfully kicked a penalty and converted Schulers try. Wests had a team of young player which will see them grow in the years ahead. I know what it feels like to lose grand finals, as I have lost 3 out 4 in this competition, I am finally glad to be on the winning team, and leaving Bundaberg and the Buccaneers with a premiership medal. Congratulations to all the boys, and especially Jack Dempsey and James Wright for their continued efforts throughout the year. I would of course like to thank our sponsors this year, as without their help, it would difficult to operate. Thank you for everyone's help throughout the year, from the boys that did the line marking, to the people in the canteen, and the guy that washed the jerseys all year. As most of you may know, my wife and I will be leaving for Charters Towers in a fortnight, and look forward to the challenges that may lay ahead. I have enjoyed my time here playing in this competition, and could always rely on at least one person from the Buccaneers to be at the pub to have many drinks with every Saturday night.......till the early early hours of the morning. The East Coast Buccaneers have been a pleasure to play for, and in 2005, the friends that we have all made will be for life. I will be running rugby tours to Charters Towers for those who wish to come for a visit, and bring your boots with tyou. I already have signed 2 people....you can always rely on the Cummins' boys.
